7’s update - Two out of Three ain’t bad!

Tuesday, 2nd July 2019

Bournemouth Elite Rugby 7’s - May 2019.

The Voyagers were again invited to the elite 7’s having made the semi-finals last year. Wales 7’s flyer Steff Andrews captained a talented and enthusiastic group of players, but late arrivals and non-availability meant that this was always going to be a tough event. The team played with plenty of skill and attacking ambition but ultimately, two narrow defeats meant that we did not make the finals on Sunday which was disappointing. But as Nigel Connell was quick to say afterwards “we’ll be back in 2020 so watch out!”.

Old Penarthians Annual Rugby 7’s - June 2019.

Winners! The Voyagers were the dominant team throughout at the 70th Old Pens 7’s and fully justified their pre-match tag as the the team to watch. Beating arch rivals Ponty Butchers and going through the competition unbeaten was the key to another memorable day for our outstanding team. If this team had taken the field at Bournemouth, then things would’ve been very different! The only disappointing news was that inspirational captain Jonathan Phillips broke his wrist in the final. ‘Get Well Soon’ Jon and we wish you a speedy and pain-free recovery.

Chineham 7’s Festival - June 2019

Winners, again! Partnering again with Reeds Weybridge RFC and as defending champions, a strong Reeds Voyagers team were in fine form brushing aside each opponent by 30+ plus points. The highlight being the final against Andover who they had already beaten well in a previous round. A young and spirited Voyagers side demonstrated great levels of skill, commitment and energy and bodes well for the future.
