Stuart Mangan

Stuart Mangan was playing for Hammersmith/Fulham RFC in an end-of-season friendly when he was seriously injured following a ruck. Prompt action from the emergency services avoided a life threatening situation from developing and he was taken to the Charing Cross Hospital and eventually to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore. He was put on a ventilator but did not regain any feeling below his neck.

The Voyagers donated a cheque for £3000 to assist and this was presented by Nigel Rees to Stuart’s father at the Middlesex Sevens in August 2008.

In August 2009 Stuart was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital in London suffering from a chest infection. Sadly, he slipped into a coma and passed away at 7pm on Friday 7 August 2009. Following memorial masses in London and Dublin, Stuart’s funeral took place in Fermoy, his home town, and he was buried in Kilcrumper Cemetery, Fermoy on Friday 14 August 2009.
